MSITU WA NDOTO (Forest of Dreams)

We love our forests and we love our cultural heritage. So we invite you to join us as we experience the beauty and magic of Kenyan stories and culture. We occupy one of the last few fragments of coastal forest in the region and at our heart lies 'Panga ya Saidi', the oldest human burial site in Africa.

Archaeologists from National Museums of Kenya and the Max Planck Research Institute discovered the remains of a child whom they named 'Mtoto'. Child in Kiswahili. The Kauma community who live in the locality have renamed the child ‘Mbitsi’ , which translates into 'raw', unripe', 'tender'.

Experiences stories of the Kauma who have used this space as a sacred shrine, and hear how the local Mijikenda would seek refuge from the Arab slave traders and later, from the British tax collectors.

We are committed to protecting this fragile eco-system, and therefore numbers of people going to the cave are limited. However, the stories are so wonderful, we are creating the Forest Trail, enabling visitors to enjoy these stories in Kenya's most playful cultural playground. This opens in December 2025.

For now, karibu to the cave!
